Barco has announced that it has reached a production target of 100,000 digital cinema projectors.

At the turn of the 21st century, the cinematic and cinematic experience underwent an unprecedented shift from the traditional analog world of celluloid film to a new digital age. Barco claims that the digitization of cinema accelerated after the release of the 3D blockbuster Avatar in 2009, after which more than 90% of the market switched to digital projection. The conversion to digital cinema has enabled significant growth in the global cinema market, doubling the number of screens from 100,000 to nearly 200,000 today.

Over the past seven years, the market has continued to innovate with the advent of the laser age. Barco says that today more than 25,000 of its laser projection solutions are deployed worldwide.

“This is not the end of the success story. Digital projection and the more recent switch from lamps to laser light sources only offer more benefits for customers, ”said Ignace Rombaut, vice president of projection at Barco. “From R&D to production, and from design to the end user, the laser is built into everything we do as the right choice for the future of cinema. From picture quality to sustainability, there is still untapped growth potential, and I have no doubts that the prospects are bright for cinema. “

“We would like to thank all of our loyal partners, customers and employees for their support in this joint achievement,” said Nicolas Vanden Abeele, senior vice president of entertainment at Barco. “Despite challenging times, the cinema has always come together as an industry to exceed expectations and continue to provide the best movie viewing experience. Our colleagues around the world have a long-term commitment to help elevate cinema to the next level using our portfolio of fully laser digital cinema projectors for many years to come. “
