MONTREAL, Sep 03, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Currents: the power of Niagara transformed, presented by Thinkwell, is an epic nighttime spectacle set in the heart of a century-old hydroelectric power station, which follows the dramatic transformation of water into electricity. With immersive and interactive storytelling techniques, Currents offers an incredible multisensory experience among the huge decommissioned generators housed in the first large power plant on the Canadian side of the Niagara River. Thinkwell Studio Montreal designed and produced the all-new immersive experience at Niagara Parks Power Station, in close collaboration with the Niagara Parks Commission.

Spanning 61,000 square feet and 115 years of industrial space, Thinkwell has created over 40 minutes of projection-mapped content and lighting design for the nighttime show. Instead of using off-the-shelf solutions, Thinkwell created fully customized tools for the project, using an array of 23 projectors, 35 speakers, and proprietary interactive projector auto-calibration and tracking systems to deliver life at the power plant. .

While the intent of the project originally started out as a traditional seated multimedia show, the Thinkwell team saw even more promise in the beautifully sleeping powerhouse, envisioning a fully interactive and immersive experience, an experience that the Audiences will not only be watching, but being able to experience all around them, as the nightly sound and light show fills the building’s generator room.

Since the shutdown of operations in 2005 and the decommissioning of the plant, the plant has been reopened as a historical experience for visitors and now transformed into a spectacular, immersive and interactive sound and light show thanks to the mapping of projection, a breathtaking original score and responsive technologies. that Thinkwell Studio Montreal custom designed and developed for the project. Visitors of all ages are invited to follow the story of the transformation of water into electricity, starting as a tiny drop of water in Horseshoe Falls, moving through turbines and transforming into a spark of electricity. .

“This is not an adults-only show. It is inspired by children and their urge to travel. Their desire to explore these truly unique places and to look below and all around. We present the children as characters. very early in the show, so that they hopefully inspire people to stay connected to this game and to this desire to explore, ”says Émilie F. Grenier, Creative Director of Thinkwell Studio Montreal.

By providing design recommendations, creative concepts, projection technologies and project execution, Thinkwell Studio Montreal is proud to present a unique and immersive experience to visitors from around the world to the Niagara Parks Power Plant.

Currents: the power of Niagara transformed will present four shows per evening throughout next year, starting September 3, 2021.
